It's the start of my last summer field season and I am ready to get the ball rolling! This summer is different because I have an undergraduate field research assistant from the University of Miami, Theresa Bersin, who will be helping me for the next three weeks. It's great to have the extra help and company and I will teach Theresa what it's like to do research in a tropical rainforest.
I will also be running a new experiment this summer, to track germination rates of seedlings in the forest. I will be building boxes out of wire mesh and planting seeds in them. Then I will come back to the boxes regularly (my local assistant will takeover when I leave) to track how many seeds germinate. This information is really important to build a mathematical model that puts all this information together. Wish us luck!
